Description
This was produced by Visco for Neo Geo arcade hardware. The game is basically an R-Type clone using the shield mechanic. Were it differs is the weapon can be changed in game if you have collected that power-up. With R-Type you could not hold weapons to be used later. R-Type also had an organic look with lots of ugly aliens. Andro Dunos differs in that it uses Mecha style robots and even the bosses are mechanical robots. To be honest R-Type's excellently designed alien bad guys and environment made it look unique and improved the game immensely; you wondered what you would see next. With Andro Dunos it is all a bit more of the same on every level. Don't get me wrong the graphics are nice for a 1992 SCHMUP and the backgrounds are detailed and don't detract from the gameplay. The music is also nice, but largely forgettable. Overall this is a run of the mill shooter and worst of all it's a coin guzzler. It's a difficult game and I think most gamers would struggle to get past the first few levels in less than 10 credits. The game is also fairly short, a skilled SCHMUP gamer could get through it in about 30 minutes. In its defence unlike Ghost Pilots on Neo Geo hardware it doesn't outstay its welcome. Recommended for SCHMUP and Neo Geo fans only
