Storyline
I have only seen the trailer, but that is all that is necessary to see it is nothing more than an infomercial meant to repair the well-deserved bad reputation Ranch for Kids has gotten over the years for being a dumping grounds for unwanted Russian children adopted by Americans. Ranch for Kids famously barred the Russian Children's Ombudsman Pavel Astakhov from entering the grounds to talk with the children to see if they were being treated humanely. The Ranch for Kids website still shows that it is still closely aligned with a fringe psychotherapy ("Attachment/Holding Therapy") that uses coercive restraint *as therapy,* along with its highly authoritarian parenting methods – which were condemned in 2006 by the American Psychological Association's Division on Child Maltreatment. (The Ranch for Kids website specifically recommends psychotherapist Ronald Federici who promotes an especially dangerous and painful prone restraint to enforce commands. Note that the trailer shows an adult sitting on a boy.) In 2013 authorities threatened to close Ranch for Kids for operating without a residential treatment center license. Russian authorities claim they have asked authorities to close Ranch for Kids. The film suggests that Ranch for Kids now has a "counselor" but there is no evidence she is licensed; she rather seems to be the Founder and "bishop" of her own Order of Healing Apostles, and apparently her practices tend to the bizarre, e.g. Reiki and Pranic Healing. Ranch for Kids is for children with "Reactive Attachment Disorder," but the owner is actually referring to a bogus condition called "Attachment Disorder" -- an unrecognized diagnosis with a laundry list of signs so long that any child would qualify as having this phony condition. The AD diagnosis is handy in allowing parents to justify abandoning any unwanted child to Ranch for Kids.
