An actual play using the Kids on Bikes system, Christmastide signs a social contact with its audience to create fun roleplay without genuine risk in the short-term. Based in a fictional town that’s a blend of Sandusky, OH and Santa Claus, IN, the first season starts with the player characters in first grade and a strict promise from GM Diane that she won’t genuinely harm them until their characters can get a driver’s license. This creates the perfect atmosphere for a Hardy Boys-adjacent mystery with a handful of well-roleplayed six-year-olds stumbling into the machinations of adults. Wholesome, threads the needle of roleplaying children without making them precocious know-it-alls, a salve for the abrasiveness of the world.
