Co-presenters Milton Berle & RuPaul infamously did not get along whatsoever during the ceremony. They kept going off-script by lobbing harsh insults at each other while on-stage presenting the Viewer's Choice Award, and continued to do so backstage with RuPaul claiming that at one point, Berle touched him inappropriately. This whole incident ended what was, until that point, a very prosperous association for RuPaul with MTV, since this was shortly after his debut album was released, and the video for the single "Supermodel (You Better Work)" was in heavy rotation on the network.
