The poem is such an important work and it is now celebrating its Bicentennial. Let us hope that children are introduced to this poem for another 200 years or more and keep the spirit of the holidays in their hearts. I worked on the history of this poem for ten years and have discovered at every turn individuals who cherish their copies and love the poem into adulthood and have fond memories of reading it each and every Christmas with their family. The poem has a rich art history as well both in terms of illustration and great works by artists inspired by the lines including Norman Rockwell and Andy Warhol. Clement Clarke Moore is considered to be the "Poet of Christmas Eve" and the poem the "most recited, most researched, most collected and most published" work in the library of English literature - and that includes Shakespeare.
