Clowns have always been an object of fascination. All the dualities of humanity are portrayed within the mythology of the clown. Pleasure and pain. Humor and pathos. But, in recent history there has been a shift to the clown taking on the portrayal of the stark duality of life and death—mostly death, or at least the fear of death. The clown now embodies an archetype that has shifted from a light, humor based expression of entertainment to exemplifying the fear inducing characters of horror movies. Still entertainment, but why this shift? What does this say about our culture, about ourselves? What does the future hold for the clown? I can't wait to see this movie!
