Story line
Summer on Mirabelløya is a Norwegian reading program for children that aired on NRK Fjernsynet in 1975. The series is about some children who spend their summer holidays on an idyllic island in the open sea. There they find an old map that leads them to a mysterious island out on a pond. The series is a kind of picture book story based on a contemporary book written by Bjørn Rønningen (he also had the script for the series). The narrator's voice belongs to Anne Marie Ottersen. The illustrations were by Vivian Zahl Olsen while the direction was by Stein Wien. The series' genre was a mixture of everyday drama, mystery and adventure.
The characteristic background music was based on two of Erik Saties Gymnopédier. The title track was taken from Gymnopedie no. 1.
The series was rebroadcast in 1983, 1987 and 1989. It was sold to all the Nordic countries, as well as Portugal, Ireland and Yugoslavia.
